Picked up another wireless headset on sale during the 4th of July week. A bit of a headphone enthusiasts. I love the pouch the come in. They are a bit clearer with much more treble than the Insignia wireless one's I have. They are both similar as well from a visual perspective. And they both sound better than the beats line. Just a waist of money in my honest opinion. Creative Labs speaks for themselves. They were only $39.99 with a promo code. A good savings and I love them when I am playing live poker cash games. In addition, they are much better for noise-cancellation purposes at a higher volume. They go well with my samsung galaxy player 4.2 and my Cowon Mp3 player as well. Happy shopping everyone. ;) https://us.creative.com/p/headphones-he ... ier-black/.

I got a text from my Grandmother today, she manages apartment complexes and said she had something for me that was left behind in one the buildings, although she didn't know if I wanted it or if it was worth anything. So I head over to her house and find easily a couple thousand Magic cards:

Someone asked me literally a few days ago on a stream if I played Magic... well, I guess I might have to now.

No interest in Magic or card games in general (unless we talking Uno!) but that big of a score is pretty awesome.

The nice thing about Magic is that the good cards keep rising in value. As each new cycle or core set comes along, old cards are retired from some tournament play, but there are still tournaments that keep the older stuff legal. It's a fun game in it's own right; it just gets expensive when you try to build the perfect deck of the moment and as each new set comes out, since they come regularly.

Yeah, it's kind of... too much. I was looking through these cards and they're not particularly well organized - cards from 1994 are mixed with ones from 2014, and I have no idea where to start. I barely even know what I have, trying to assemble a deck out of thousands of cards just dropped in my lap is pretty daunting.

I think I might start with the digital version of Magic to get my feet wet with the newer decks and figure out what the hell I'm doing. Then maybe I can try to make sense of these older sets.

This is a prime example of why I need more nerdy friends; if I knew someone really into Magic that could sort through this with me then I might be able to determine if I have any worthwhile cards in this haul. Instead I have to learn 25 years of card releases all at once.

I'm sure I'll be reaching out to them for help in the coming days.

I think the best plan of attack right now is to take the time and sort these cards out into their individual sets and pull out the rares/mythics (although I doubt there will be any)/foils to see if I have anything of value or usefulness. With everything categorized I might have a chance at actually learning how to use some of these cards in conjunction with each other.

Of course, this is a task that will probably take a full day. Gonna need to find some free time and some Twitch streams to watch in the background. :)

My suggestion is to separate them by color first, rather than set. Lands are their own thing as well, as are artifacts. That would give you 7-8 groups of cards. Separating by set is fine if you're just planning to sort and sell, but if you want to try and play, separating by colors is the way to go.

I've separated them by set and type within each set. I've pulled out all the basic land cards though and stuck them together - they seem better out of the way.

This is just a stock picture, but I picked this up on Saturday and played it with a group of 6 that night:

Image

It's a Choose Your Own Adventure tabletop game!

I think we've chatted about CYOA books sometime in the past, but I don't mind saying it again: I loved these books when I was a kid! I always got new ones every year when we had book fairs at school. But yeah, the game is fun and faithful in spirit to the books. You can play it solo or with a group of any size. Basically you set up a simple board that has a psychic meter and a danger level. You play as a psychic detective who visits a strange house because of a premonition you had. You have 5 decks of cards that are basically the book (broken up into 5 chapters). As you play through each chapter you make choices (complete with having you turn to page/card whatever), build up your psychic meter which makes you stronger, and raise or lower your danger level which affects your psychic meter and chances of success on dice rolls. Yes, you roll dice when you attempt challenges throughout the game. And you also get clue cards which can act as bonuses and items to help you in your quest.

These little extras make it more of a game than just a pure book, and it's a neat touch. The way we played is we each took turns reading a page and if you faced a challenge during your turn, you rolled the die. Whenever we had to choose an action, like go check out the chimp playing a violin or ignore him (yes, that was a REAL choice), we voted, and went with the majority. if there was a tie, the current reader counted as the tie-breaker. And just like in the books, there are many ways to die! Thankfully for the purposes of the game, rather than start all over (it's long...5 chapters!), you just reduce points on your psychic meter and raise your danger level as punishment to go back to your last choice. It was a lot of fun but we only went through Chapter 1. I can't wait to finish the whole thing and since there are multiple endings, there is some replay value. Good stuff.

It's a nice CE, but would better fit in 'Your latest gaming pick-ups!' rather than here, which is more for non-gaming related stuff: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=40

From what I can remember you normally post in the gaming pick-up thread already, so I imagine this was a simple mistake.

Picked up a Xiaomi Redmi Note 7. Let me tell you something. The night mode and pictures on this baby rivals the Google Pixel 3 and the Samsung S10. My friends that have the one's just mentioned are going to ditch their phones and get mine as a daily use. I absolutely love the phone. Just really smooth and snappy. https://www.mi.com/global/redmi-note-7/. Also picked up another Mi Band 3. I can go about thirty days without a charge. https://www.mi.com/global/mi-band-3/

It's amazing how advanced phone technology has gotten in our lifetimes. I'll continue to settle for an inexpensive option that I wait until its dying breath to upgrade. In my time with cells, I've had 4 phones, and 2 were flip phones. I did just recently have to upgrade though because my previous one died after a few years. One of these days I may upgrade to a standalone smartwatch, though. I always thought those were cool, even back when they were just sci-fi!

Picked up the Logitech Z623 2.1 THX Certified speakers for $99.00 from Best Buy. I love THX certified computer speakers. Excellent for home theater and gaming. Always pay good money for quality speakers. https://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/ ... 23?crid=47. Can't wait to open them. It's like you guys that want a complete LRG set. I love quality computer components. You all pay crazy money for a LRG bundle. I pay good money for quality, not quantity, computer parts. The Klipsch Pro Media lasted me for well over a decade. The sub-woofer would just get too hot at times. They finally died on me. Well...the sub-woofer did. https://www.klipsch.com/computer-speakers. Picked up another motherboard as well. Wanted to overclock my FX-8350E. Happy gaming everyone.

Got a bunch of Funky Mystery Minis and pint sized heroes for $12.99 shipped!

Don't really care for Pint Sized Heroes and I already have the Doom Pinky Demon and Fallout Vault guy, so will sell those. Don't have any of the others though (will probably also sell the Walking Dead ones too as I don't care for the series anymore) and I am REALLY most excited about getting Commander Keen.

Picked up the Xiaomi Mi Band 4. This was released about a week ago by Xiaomi and this is a bit better than my Mi Band 3 because it's brighter in sunlight and that AMOLED screen is gorgeous. And color was added to the screen. I do everything through my Mi Band 3. I get my incoming calls, text, heart rate, stop watch, weather(3 days worth), exercise modes, you can swim in it, and step counter, calories burned, and it's one of the best trackers out there.I usually get about thirty days on one charge with the Mi Band 3, but twenty days with the Mi Band 4 you can't beat. My wife is so jealous when she has to charge her fitbit once a week. LOL. Can't wait to get it from gearbest.com. I love purchasing phones from gearbest. Just a great place if you want almost any type of unlocked phone. Later. Happy shopping everyone. Just a crazy side note: Won another jackpot playing poker here in Los Angeles at the world famous Commerce. I guess you can call it a gift $1,500 pick-up.

Nice! I've always loved playing poker but I'm not good at doing it for money. I don't hide it well when I actually have a good hand.

My first purchase I've ever actually been literally afraid that my friends and family will find out what I paid for it... Not msrp but still I would never hear the end of it...

They make dunnys in 3, 5, 8 and 20 inch varieties (oh and a 4 footer I'll never own :() I waited and waited for a 20" that I truly loved, and my wait paid off. I love this dunny. The small ones (birds) are 5" that were included.

I'm assuming less than what it says on the kidrobot site? I've paid that much for a few of my statues and other collectibles.

My trick is to remind them that I don't waste any more on any daily habit consumables. Starbucks, smokes, etc.

Quite a bit less, but still a large amount haha. And that's a good way to think of it! I have been very choosy with my game purchases lately to accommodate for this :)

Plus I'm not collecting cars. Nor do I feel the need to own a boat or mansion or something.
I haven't broken the $1000 barrier for any one thing yet, but I may have to some day on the second hand market.
I guess I can at least say that quite a few of my various things have gone into 4 digits too, if eBay listings are anything to go by.
Haven't looked at actual sold-for numbers though, but I don't really intend to sell mine so whether I'm sitting on a gold mine or not is a moot point.
I'm not the type of person to sell off one thing that I wanted and got just to afford another thing. I'd always think about re-acquiring the first thing, probably for even more.

Collecting useless objects is already impractical enough.

I'm not into Dunnies, but that tree w/birds one (and the ghost girl one) are actually pretty cool!

The most I've spent on any one collectible item is $500. Technically I think I spent about $550, but it was less than $600 for sure. And I've done it twice in my life. $550 for an animation cel from a show I loved as a kid (and still think is cool), and $500 for a never-released version of Stratego (got a store display prototype). The cel is one of a kind and the game I'd seen incomplete many times and only complete twice. The first one sold for $1000. I was collecting Stratego at the time.

Very nice buraddo, i used to play stratego a lot with my dad when i was a kid, sometimes entire afternoons. Wish i could go back to that time again.

Pretty much sums up how i feel about it, everybody finds it normal and okay that you spend a grand on a city trip for example but when you spend a few hundred bucks on a collectible no matter what it is you're being called crazy for wasting so much money on something.

It's a great game, though I haven't played it in a few years.

And yeah, it's silly when people call 1 form of entertainment a waste but accept another as normal. Events are fun, and usually leave you with good memories. But items are fun, too, and are memories in physical form that can be re-enjoyed.
