Games We Play: Wild Frontier

by Alan

Wild Frontier Title

Hey kiddos, this is Alan starting the first post in a series of “Games We Play.” In these posts I will share cool games that other companies made that I enjoy playing.

The first game I want to share with you is KTH’s Wild Frontier which is a Korean Role-Playing Game (KRPG)on the iOS. The game is free-to-play or “freemium” which means the full game is priced free and then you can optionally buy items in game to enhance your game experience or help you out of a difficult section.

So far I’m past the first couple of bosses and really enjoying the game. One immediate better thing that I noticed is that the dialog text is a lot easier to read than many other KRPGs on iOS. The graphics are amazing, with great lighting changes for the day/night cycle in game. I love how so many elements of the game like the day/night cycle have great graphics and they are tied in well to gameplay, like how the monsters get more powerful at night. Every piece of equipment changes the look of your character as well as the stats.

The crafting system is also really fun to use. The game actually has monsters drop items that seem logical and then are combined in a logical way to craft things at a campsite. You can craft elsewhere, but it’s more effective to do it at a safe camp. It’s better than some games where you combine things like a rock, pine-straw and some leather to make a motorcycle. You don’t have to be MacGuyver to understand and have fun with it.

You’ll want to use your tactical mind to do combat in this game because it’s not a button-masher. At the same time it won’t punish you like Marvel vs Capcom 2 does me for playing characters that I do not know the move combos. It’s straightforward without being mindless. The bosses can be kinda tough and that’s where you may choose to purchase items to help you along the way.

Check out Wild Frontier on the Apple App Store and leave a comment to let me know what you think!
